Cooperation, working together across borders and reconciliation are at the heart of the EU project. The EU agenda in the Western Balkans is focused on building a shared future, while overcoming the legacy of the past.
One of the ways of driving growth and stability is to improve economic integration. A larger integrated market is more attractive for foreign investment and a stepping-stone for closer integration with the EU. This goes hand in hand with social integration and reconciliation – central to EU investment and support in the region.
The Common Regional Market, supported by the EU, promotes greater integration based on EU rules and standards. This should attract more investment, help address economic fragmentation, and bring the region closer to the EU single market.
Cross-border Cooperation programmes are drivers of local economic, social, environmental and cultural development. The EU has long been supporting cross-border initiatives, and remains committed to this goal.
