Call Opens for EU Award for Investigative Journalism 2024

Journalists from the Western Balkans and Türkiye are invited to submit their investigative stories for the EU Award for Investigative Journalism 2024. This prestigious award honours outstanding investigative reporting that advances freedom of expression, upholds the rule of law, and brings attention to critical issues such as organised crime, corruption, extremism, foreign influence, and human rights violations. Stories published during the previous calendar year are eligible, and participants can submit up to three entries for either the national or regional categories, with the possibility of winning prizes of up to €5,000. Organised by Thomson Media and part of the "Strengthening Quality Journalism in Western Balkans and Türkiye II" project, the award is funded by the European Union and aims to enhance quality journalism visibility across the region. A total of €10,000 is available per country, with an additional €10,000 for the regional award. The esteemed jury, consisting of local and international media experts, ensures a fair evaluation process. The deadline for submissions is 13 June 2024.

Youth4Regions – The Programme for Aspiring Journalists

Youth4Regions is the European Commission’s initiative designed to educate journalism students and young journalists about the EU’s impact in their regions. The programme offers comprehensive training, mentorship with top journalists, participation in EU Regions’ Week, and visits to EU media headquarters and institutions, along with a chance to join European Commission press trips. All accommodation, food, and travel expenses are covered by the programme. Applicants should have a keen interest in EU activities, a background in journalism (through education or up to 2 years of professional experience), be citizens of the EU or neighbouring countries aged between 18 and 30, and be available from 5 to 11 October 2024. The application period is open from 8 April until 8 July, 17:00 CET. Interested candidates must demonstrate a strong interest in journalism to be eligible.
