World Cleanup Day unites millions of volunteers, governments, and organizations in 191 countries to tackle the global waste problem and build up a new and sustainable world. Annually over 40,000 participants gather in coastal cleaning events. Inspired by the key message that this is the only home we have, YEAs started the tradition of joining the cause with last year’s #EUBeachCleanup in Albania.
This year, as part of the #EUBeachCleanup, YEAs are joining the European Union Office in Kosovo and GIZ Kosovo who are organizing the Badovc Lake clean-up. Considering the high importance this lake has for the citizens of Pristina as their main drinking water supply, it is important to send a message to the citizens that they need to take care of the lake when they spend their free time there, keeping it clean and litter-free. PAMKOS (The Association for Environmental Protection and Cleanup of Kosovo) will also be the official partner of the clean-up, together with the Regional Waste Company “Pastrimi”.
All the details regarding the event can be found in the Agenda of the Cleanup.
PAMKOS (The Association for Environmental Protection and Cleanup of Kosovo) was founded in 2000 with the aim of protecting the environment and providing a comprehensive platform for the Waste Management Companies of the Republic of Kosovo.
The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH has been working in Kosovo on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) since 1999.
GIZ advises and supports Kosovo in its efforts to achieve political stability and democracy based on the rule of law.
The European Union Office in Kosovo (EUOK) is part of the network of more than 130 EU Delegations across the world and their role is primarily to present, explain and implement EU policy, and to analyse and report on the policies and developments in the partners to which they are accredited.
Regional Waste Company “Pastrimi” primarily deals with waste collection within the Peja, Deçan, Klina and Istog Municipalities.
Secondary activities are city greenery and public parks maintenance, road and pavement cleaning, washing off and removal of mud and waste, road maintenance during the winter season, removal and moving waste from illegal landfills.
