YEAs at BINA 2025: Advocating Sustainable Architecture and Youth Dialogue

From April 15 to May 17, 2025, Belgrade transformed into a hub of architectural dialogue during the Belgrade International Architecture Week (BINA), a festival that since 2006 has been fostering intercultural exchange, public engagement, and collaborative exploration of urban and rural spaces. Among this year’s participants was Young European Ambassador Uroš Šestović, who brought a youth perspective to the vibrant conversations on architecture and sustainability.

This year’s BINA, held under the theme “Towards New Architectural Values,” featured a diverse program of exhibitions, lectures, panel discussions, seminars, and architectural walks across Belgrade and Kragujevac. It highlighted topics such as urban development, preservation of architectural heritage, sustainability, and the important role of women in modernist architecture.

Reflecting on his participation, Uroš shared:

“BINA was an amazing experience. I had the chance to present the WeBalkans initiative to many people, and their reactions were incredibly positive- they were genuinely interested and excited to learn more.

As for the BINA program itself, I took part in a panel discussion alongside notable figures from the field of architecture, where we discussed the current state and future of architecture in Serbia. We also visited an exhibition organized in collaboration with a group of young architects, centered on sustainable housing. The exhibition showcased compact housing solutions tailored for rural, urban, mountainous, and other specific environments.”

Through his active involvement, Uroš not only contributed to the professional discourse but also introduced new audiences to the values of youth engagement and cross-border collaboration in shaping the built environment. His presence at BINA 2025 reaffirmed the importance of including young voices in redefining architectural narratives and building sustainable future.
