Job creation, ensuring decent work and social protection are core goals for the EU. And this is reflected in EU support to the Western Balkans. But despite much investment, funding and technical assistance, big gaps between remain. Weak competitiveness, high unemployment, under-investment in education and health and social inequalities are just some of the challenges.
The EU is already behind many activities to increase employment opportunities, and address health access and social needs. Yet more is needed – and that’s why the EU is stepping up support with the Economic and Investment Plan and other programmes.
People are at the heart of every economy. Through a range of activities and funding, the EU works towards improving labour market policies, tackling poverty, and promoting inclusion of disadvantaged groups in the Western Balkans.
