As the new school year approached, City Park Skopje’s open-air stage “The Shell” came alive with laughter, creativity, and heartfelt conversations. Under the theme “Back to School, Forward Together,” YEA Teodora Jolakoska gathered around 80 children and youth aged 8 to 23, both with and without disabilities, to open dialogue on bullying and discrimination – issues that continue to affect schools and communities across society.
The event began with a simple yet eye-opening game: forming groups of three, then five, while leaving some children out. In just a few minutes, participants experienced what exclusion feels like, sparking a dialogue about belonging and the importance of making space for everyone.
Through interactive activities, the young participants reflected on how words, whether harsh or kind, can deeply shape how we feel. Negative comments were followed by encouraging ones, showing the transformative power of kindness. Art and movement added another layer of expression: children’s drawings came to life through dance, while collective paintings revealed just how many have felt the sting of exclusion, but also the warmth of acceptance.
In a safe and supportive circle, anonymous stories of bullying were shared aloud, reminding everyone that no one is alone in facing these challenges. Special guest Stefan Ristevski, a young actor recognized for his role as a bullying victim in Teen Camp, joined Teodora in delivering a powerful closing message, urging participants to stand against discrimination, choose kindness, and support their peers.
The event closed with a clear call: schools and communities must be places where every child feels safe, respected, and accepted, because no one should be left out.
