Youth empowering youth against sexism and for gender equality

10 – 16 December / Montenegro

On December 10th, a dynamic event was held in Podgorica to raise awareness about sexism and gender equality, aligning with Human Rights Week. The initiative aimed to engage young people in a deeper understanding of gender issues and inspire a new generation committed to promoting inclusivity and combating discrimination.

The event, organized in collaboration with Građanska Alijansa and the YEAs, was followed by a similar gathering on December 16th in Bijelo Polje. The audience included youth from both cities, who participated in a variety of educational and interactive activities led by YEAs. These sessions sought to encourage reflection, foster open dialogue, and celebrate diversity.

Participants engaged in thought-provoking activities such as presentations, storytelling, group discussions, and social exercises designed to explore perceptions of gender equality. Through these interactive approaches, the event inspired young people to consider their roles in challenging stereotypes and promoting a culture of respect and equality.

A central feature of the event was the Human Library session, moderated by YEAs. This interactive experience brought together three individuals who shared their personal stories and experiences related to sexism. Acting as “living books,” they provided valuable insights into the challenges of gender-based discrimination. Participants had the opportunity to engage in one-on-one conversations with these “books,” confronting stereotypes and gaining a deeper understanding of gender-related issues.

This initiative provided a meaningful space for youth to reflect on their perspectives, learn from each other, and join the global movement toward a more inclusive and equal society.
