On January 27, Young European Ambassadors (YEAs) attended the exhibition “My Right to Remember” at Europe House Skopje. The event marked International Holocaust Remembrance Day, commemorating the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau in 1945 and serving as a solemn reminder of the atrocities of the Holocaust.
The exhibition, organized by the RROMA Foundation with support from the German Federal Foreign Office, RYCO, and the ERGO Network, highlights the persecution and genocide of 500,000 Sinti and Roma under the Nazi regime. Divided into three sections—pre-war, during the war, and post-war—it explores the historical and personal impacts of this tragedy while fostering acceptance, historical awareness, and resilience in the fight against prejudice.
As part of the event, YEA Emilija Panovska guided attendees through the exhibition, offering in-depth insights and facilitating meaningful discussions. The YEAs engaged deeply with the themes of inclusion, diversity, and historical remembrance, participating in important conversations with attendees, including the EU Ambassador, H.E. Michalis Rokas.
The exhibition not only empowered youth to embrace their Romani identity but also encouraged them to reflect on the importance of acceptance and the dangers of discrimination. The YEAs left inspired to incorporate these lessons into their own initiatives, strengthening their commitment to building a more inclusive and aware society.
“My Right to Remember” stands as a testament to the enduring need for historical awareness, intergenerational dialogue, and the fight against prejudice in all its forms.
