Treasure Hunt in Cetinje: YEAs Explore the Capital of Culture

On August 9th, 2025, Cetinje became the stage for an unforgettable adventure. The Young European Ambassadors from Montenegro, with support from the WeBalkans Monthly Initiative, transformed the city into a live treasure map. The idea and execution of this unique activity came from YEA Danilo Bulatović, who designed it to showcase Cetinje’s rich heritage and its importance to European identity.

Participants split into two teams: Team Black (Danilo Bulatović, Marija Blažević, Vasilisa Batrićević, Anastasija Dobrilović) and Team White (Edina Osmanović, Emina Balota, Matia Prekončević, Luka Vukotić). Friendly competition filled the air as both teams raced to uncover the city’s hidden stories and landmarks.

The hunt combined exploration, creativity, and interaction with locals. Teams recorded video stories, visited historical sites such as the former residence of Crown Prince Danilo, Cetinje Monastery, “Montenegro in Miniature,” and the Biljarda, and even discovered the hand of Saint John the Baptist. Challenges included photographing the first princess to drive a car in the Balkans, collecting local legends, writing poems, engaging passersby with interactive questions, recreating historic photos, and solving riddles leading to the Biljarda.

Team Black completed all tasks first, but the true reward was the shared experience: new knowledge about Cetinje, strengthened team bonds, and stories to share on social media.

This treasure hunt highlighted how non-formal activities can connect young people, celebrate cultural identity, and promote European values. Thanks to Danilo Bulatović’s vision, Cetinje became more than a city for a day – it was a living classroom, reaffirming its status as the European Capital of Culture.
