Across the Western Balkans, new public Wi-Fi hotspots are opening doors to greater connectivity and opportunity. WiFi4WB, part of the EU4Digital Project, is co-funded by the European Union and the German Government and implemented by GIZ. This initiative provides free public Wi-Fi hotspots in municipalities across the Western Balkans, enhancing access to digital services, learning, and communication, while supporting regional integration into the EU Digital Single Market.
The official launch ceremonies took place at the sites of the first installed public Wi-Fi hotspots in Kruja, Danilovgrad, and Kočani, symbolising the start of municipal deployment and immediate public access. These local activations mark an important step within the broader nationwide rollout in Albania, Montenegro, and North Macedonia, and are part of a coordinated series of similar events taking place across the region.
Young European Ambassadors played an active role in the ceremonies. YEAs Olta Shehu, Anisa Doci, and Rixhers Dengo participated in the launch in Kruja, where they interviewed the EU Ambassador to Albania. In Danilovgrad, YEAs Edina Osmanovic, Aldo Vlahovljak, and Boris Vukotic joined the event, while Bojan Ristovski and Teodora Jolakoska represented the network in Kočani.
Throughout the launches, YEAs actively promoted the network and co-created interactive content for their peers, helping amplify the message of digital inclusion and regional cooperation. A joint message echoed through all of the events: reliable internet access is more than infrastructure, it is a foundation for opportunity, innovation, and a stronger European future for the region.
