On 11 February, the Youth Initiatives Council of the President of Montenegro met with the Young European Ambassadors and WeBalkans representatives at the premises of the Science and Technology Park to discuss one of the country’s most pressing challenges: preventing the outflow of a significant number of young people following the country’s accession to the European Union.
A key proposal discussed was the inclusion of youth representatives in the development of the National Demographic Strategy. Participants also emphasized the establishment of municipal EU teams across Montenegro, aimed at strengthening the capacities of local self-governments to effectively absorb and manage EU funds upon full EU membership. Such teams would help translate European opportunities into concrete local development projects, particularly those benefiting young people.
Finally, the scholarship programme “Back to Montenegro” was presented as a strategic measure to support outstanding Montenegrin students studying abroad. Together, these measures and the insightful discussion between the Youth Initiatives Council and YEAs reflected a shared commitment to ensure that Montenegro’s European path empowers its young people and fosters long-term demographic and economic resilience.
