From 27 to 31 October, Podgorica hosted the media literacy week titled “Facts come first”, aimed at fostering critical thinking skills and media literacy among young people in Montenegro.
The opening event was moderated by YEA Aldo Vlahovljak and brought together a youth panel joined by YEAs Anastasija Dobrilović, Emina Balota, and Vasilisa Batrićević, together with influencer Filip Petrović. Speakers shared their insights from the “Facts come first” campaign and identified key lessons learned.
Filip Petrović reflected on his role as an influencer, emphasizing the importance of authenticity, responsibility and mindful online presence. He noted that while many people today consider themselves influencers, this role carries significant responsibility, as the content shared online has a strong impact on followers and public perception. He underlined that influencing as a “profession” has no formal prerequisites, yet it requires a high degree of awareness and ethical responsibility.
The audience was mainly composed of high school students, who found the event quite insightful and actively contributed throughout all the sessions. Many of them noted that they were surprised to discover how easily the media can sometimes distort reality, as they had previously fallen for clickbait and had been impacted by misinformation narratives.
This event empowered young people not only to recognize media’s impact, but also to critically evaluate information from diverse sources. Most importantly, it encouraged them to take responsibility for the content they create, shaping them into thoughtful and responsible digital citizens.
