ARTS AND CULTURE, EU INTEGRATION
My name is Damjan Jovičin and I am a Belgrade-based Serbian composer, pianist and an ensemble coordinator who belongs to the new generation of creative artists and composers of the Balkans. I finished his Bachelor and Master of Music Studies at the University of Arts in Belgrade and now I am on a third year of Doctoral Studies in Music Composition in the class of professor Zoran Erić.
My work was performed during Darmstadt Summer Course for new music, ISA (International Summer Academy of University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna), Time of Music in Finland, Walden CMR (New Hampshire, USA), Belgrade Music Festival (Serbia), CEME Festival in Israel and Balkan Composer Competition in Pristina where he received DAM festival award. Notable performers of my music include: Ensemble Oerknal, Orchestra and choir of the RTS Serbian Broadcasting Corporation, Hermes Ensemble, Hashtag Ensemble, Balkan Youth Jazz Orchestra, Mivos Quartet, Zagreb Flute Ensemble, String Orchestra of Faculty of Music in Belgrade, Belgrade guitar duo, etc.
I collaborated with Australian artists Eiichi Tosaki and Roger Alsop, creating collaborative artworks. From applied music, notable collaboration is music for theatre play Eg er vinden on a text by Jon Fosse, directed by Serbian director Filip Grinvald. I visited masterclasses and workshops held by Brian Ferneyhough, Tristan Murail, Mark Applebaum, David Rosenboom, Peter Adriaansz, Ulrich Krieger, Michael Daugherty and others.
