The event gathered ministers in charge of tourism from the Western Balkans, representatives of the European Commission and other relevant stakeholders in the tourism sector. Under the title \u201cLifting Barriers for Sustainable Tourism Development\u201d the event served as a discussion forum on the topics of importance to the region\u2019s tourism.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The event was opened by RCC Secretary General,\u00a0Majlinda Bregu; Minister of Tourism and Environment of Albania,\u00a0Mirela Kumbaro; Mayor of Tirana,\u00a0Erion Veliaj; and Acting Head of the European Delegation to Albania,\u00a0Alexis Hupin. Panellists on four thematic panels included\u00a0Tatjana Mati\u0107, Serbia\u2019s Minister of Trade, Tourism and Telecommunication;\u00a0Kreshnik Bekteshi, North Macedonia\u2019s Minister of Economy;\u00a0Sta\u0161a Ko\u0161arac, Bosnia and Herzegovina\u2019s Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations;\u00a0Rozeta Hajdari, Kosovo\u2019s Minister of Trade and Industry; and\u00a0Aleksandra Garda\u0161evi\u0107-Slavuljica, Director General \u00a0at Montenegro\u2019s Ministry of Economic Development and Tourism.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A side event on \u201cMastering the current challenges in the tourism industry\u201d is to take place on 13 May gathering Western Balkans tour operators, policy makers and national tourism organisations, who will discuss tourism industry challenges and the way forward in improving the region\u2019s tourism offer.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On 12 May the Regional Cooperation Council (RCC) organised a ministerial conference in Tirana on tourism development in the Western Balkans.
