{"id":569265,"date":"2022-04-07T15:56:48","date_gmt":"2022-04-07T13:56:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/webalkans.eu\/?p=569265"},"modified":"2022-04-07T15:57:11","modified_gmt":"2022-04-07T13:57:11","slug":"eu-funded-solar-plant-in-north-macedonia-starts-producing-electricity","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/webalkans.eu\/en\/news\/eu-funded-solar-plant-in-north-macedonia-starts-producing-electricity\/","title":{"rendered":"EU-funded solar plant in North Macedonia starts producing electricity"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-GB\">The first large-scale solar plant in North Macedonia has been connected to the power grid and is already producing clean electricity.<\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\"> The plant has been financed with the support of the Western Balkans Investment Framework (WBIF) bilateral donors and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development\u00a0(EBRD).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-GB\">The 10MW photovoltaic plant was constructed by the JSC Elektrani na Severna Makedonija<span class=\"apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>(ESM) public company on the site of the former Oslomej lignite coal mine. The plant is part of a larger effort to clean up the site and to diversify energy sources and support decarbonisation. It is expected to produce nearly 15 GWh of electricity and save 12,177 tonnes of CO<sub>2 <\/sub>annually.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-GB\">In line with the Team Europe approach, the EBRD provided a \u20ac5.9 million loan, complementing a \u20ac1.6 million grant from WBIF bilateral donors and a national contribution of \u20ac1.3 million. In addition, Italy supported the project by financing the technical feasibility assessment.<span class=\"apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><em><span lang=\"EN-GB\">The Oslomej 1 solar power plant is one of the<\/span><\/em><span class=\"apple-converted-space\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><a href=\"https:\/\/wbif.eu\/storage\/app\/media\/News\/2022%20Endorsed%20flagships%20February\/WBIF%202022%20Endorsed%20Flagship%20Projects%2024.02.22.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">21 flagship projects in the Western Balkan region<\/a><\/span><em><span lang=\"EN-GB\"> selected for EU financing through the WBIF in 2022.
