{"id":3167387,"date":"2023-03-13T17:36:33","date_gmt":"2023-03-13T17:36:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/webalkans.eu\/from-belgrade-to-nis-at-200-km-h-eu-financial-package-of-e2-2-bn-for-railway-corridor-x\/"},"modified":"2026-05-05T15:27:28","modified_gmt":"2026-05-05T15:27:28","slug":"from-belgrade-to-nis-at-200-km-h-eu-financial-package-of-e2-2-bn-for-railway-corridor-x","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/webalkans.eu\/en\/from-belgrade-to-nis-at-200-km-h-eu-financial-package-of-e2-2-bn-for-railway-corridor-x\/","title":{"rendered":"From Belgrade to Ni\u0161 at 200 km\/h \u2013 EU financial package of \u20ac2.2 bn for Railway Corridor X"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div>\n\n<span lang=\"EN-US\">On 28 February 2023, the European Commission, the European Investment Bank (EIB), the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and Serbia announced jointly a \u20ac2.2 billion financial package for the moderni<\/span><span lang=\"FR\">s<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">ation of railway Corridor X.<\/span> <span lang=\"EN-US\">The package focuses on<\/span><span lang=\"ES-TRAD\">\u00a0rehabilit<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">ati<\/span><span lang=\"FR\">ng\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">the railway section between\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"IT\">Belgrade\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">and Ni\u0161, enabl<\/span><span lang=\"FR\">ing<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0a high-speed rail connection of up to 200 km\/h between the two cities, with a faster flow of goods and services, and\u00a0rapid integration into the EU railway network.<\/span>\n\n&nbsp;\n\n<\/div>\n<div>\n\n<span lang=\"EN-US\">The package includes an investment grant of up to <\/span><span lang=\"PT\">\u20ac<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">598 million from the EU &#8211; the largest EU grant for a single project in Serbia; a <\/span><span lang=\"PT\">\u20ac<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">1.1 billion loan from the EIB, and a <\/span><span lang=\"PT\">\u20ac<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">550 million loan from the EBRD.<\/span> <span lang=\"EN-US\">The EU has already approved\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"PT\">\u20ac<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">265 million in IPA\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"FR\">grants<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">, and the first tranche of\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"PT\">\u20ac<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">82.8 million was sealed by\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"FR\">a\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">protocol signing on the train from Belgrade to Ni\u0161.<\/span>\n\n&nbsp;\n\n<\/div>\n<div>\n\n<span lang=\"EN-US\">The signing took place in the presence of the European Commissioner for Neighbo<\/span><span lang=\"FR\">u<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">rhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations,\u00a0<\/span><strong><span lang=\"DA\">Oliv<\/span><\/strong><strong><span lang=\"FR\">\u00e9<\/span><\/strong><strong><span lang=\"DE\">r V<\/span><\/strong><strong><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00e1rhelyi<\/span><\/strong><span lang=\"EN-US\">, and the President of Serbia,<span class=\"apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><strong>Aleksandar Vu\u010di\u0107<\/strong>, as well as the Head of the EIB Office for the Western Balkans,\u00a0<\/span><strong><span lang=\"IT\">Alessandro Bragonzi<\/span><\/strong><span lang=\"EN-US\">, the Director of the EBRD for the Western Balkans,\u00a0<\/span><strong><span lang=\"IT\">Matteo Colangeli<\/span><\/strong><span lang=\"EN-US\">, the Minister for EU Integration,<span class=\"apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><strong>Tanja Mi\u0161\u010devi\u0107<\/strong>, the Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure,<span class=\"apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><strong>Goran Vesi\u0107<\/strong><span class=\"apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>and the Minister of Finance,<span class=\"apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><strong>Sini\u0161a Mali<\/strong>, as well as EU Member States\u2019 diplomats.<\/span>\n\n&nbsp;\n\n<\/div>\n<div>\n\n<span lang=\"EN-US\">Railway Corridor X is one of the pan-European corridors connecting Central Europe with Thessaloniki, Greece.
