{"id":3162627,"date":"2021-02-03T12:31:17","date_gmt":"2021-02-03T12:31:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/webalkans.eu\/ebrd-and-eu-support-improvements-to-albanias-railways\/"},"modified":"2026-05-05T15:16:01","modified_gmt":"2026-05-05T15:16:01","slug":"ebrd-and-eu-support-improvements-to-albanias-railways","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/webalkans.eu\/en\/ebrd-and-eu-support-improvements-to-albanias-railways\/","title":{"rendered":"EBRD and EU support improvements to Albania\u2019s railways"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Repair of a key stretch of railway in Albania is being supported by the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ebrd.com\/\">European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD)<\/a> with a \u20ac36.9 million loan which combines with an investment grant of up to \u20ac35.5 million from the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ebrd.com\/who-we-are\/structure-and-management\/shareholders\/european-union.html\">European Union (EU)<\/a> under its <a href=\"https:\/\/wbif.eu\/storage\/app\/media\/Library\/6.%20Connectivity%20Agenda\/brochure_wb_connectivity_agenda_en.pdf\">Connectivity Agenda for the Western Balkans<\/a>, and an additional \u20ac2.75 million in grants from bilateral donors through the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wbif.eu\/project\/PRJ-ALB-TRA-002\">Western Balkans Investment Framework<\/a>. More than 34 km of the existing railway track between Albania\u2019s capital, Tirana, and the port of Durr\u00ebs will be restored as part of this project. Durr\u00ebs is the country\u2019s largest port and an important regional hub for international trade, and the project will thus bring improvements not only to connectivity within the country but also to regional integration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Additionally, a new five km-long rail track will be constructed connecting Tirana city to the Tirana International Airport.
