{"id":235141,"date":"2021-12-06T17:23:54","date_gmt":"2021-12-06T16:23:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/webalkans.eu\/?p=235141"},"modified":"2021-12-06T17:30:08","modified_gmt":"2021-12-06T16:30:08","slug":"european-union-launches-global-team-europe-democracy-initiative","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/webalkans.eu\/en\/news\/european-union-launches-global-team-europe-democracy-initiative\/","title":{"rendered":"European Union launches Global Team Europe Democracy initiative"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p>The European Commission and EU Member States are launching a global Team Europe Democracy<span class=\"apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>initiative, <span lang=\"EN-GB\">that includes the Western Balkans.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>Speaking at the launch of the<span class=\"apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.idea.int\/our-work\/what-we-do\/global-state-democracy\">Global State of Democracy Report 2021<\/a>, Commissioner for International Partnerships<span lang=\"EN-IE\">,<\/span>Jutta Urpilainen<span lang=\"EN-IE\">,<\/span> said<span lang=\"EN-GB\">,<\/span> \u201cAs the world\u2019s biggest supporter of democracy, Team Europe has a great responsibility as well as an opportunity. Together with our partners, including civil society, we can build an inclusive international alliance to promote democracy. We can invest in global efforts to increase the rule of law and accountability, supporting inclusive and transparent governance. And we can engage the world\u2019s change makers: youth.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-GB\">Between<\/span> 2014<span lang=\"EN-GB\"> and <\/span>2019, EU Member States and institutions spent \u20ac14 billion in support of democracy in partner countries. This makes Team Europe the world\u2019s leading donor to democracy. The Team Europe Democracy initiative aims to provide a robust and coordinated response to key components of the global democracy deficit, <span lang=\"EN-GB\">which<\/span> the COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>The initiative will operationalise an information exchange network and support global and local projects with research and expertise. It will help develop common approaches to transparency and accountability, and improve support to partners in transitioning to
