{"id":1133691,"date":"2023-06-07T17:34:40","date_gmt":"2023-06-07T15:34:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/webalkans.eu\/?p=1133691"},"modified":"2023-06-09T17:36:08","modified_gmt":"2023-06-09T15:36:08","slug":"eu-wbif-extend-e2-5-million-grant-to-wastewater-project-in-kosovo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/webalkans.eu\/en\/news\/eu-wbif-extend-e2-5-million-grant-to-wastewater-project-in-kosovo\/","title":{"rendered":"EU, WBIF extend \u20ac2.5 million grant to wastewater project in Kosovo"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Gjilan wastewater development project in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ebrd.com\/kosovo.html\">Kosovo<\/a>, co-financed by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and European Investment Bank (EIB), has received additional financial support from bilateral donors to the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/wbif.eu\/\">Western Balkans Investment Framework<\/a>\u00a0(WBIF).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">An agreement on the \u20ac2.5 million grant was signed today in Pristina by Sergiy Maslichenko, EBRD Head of Kosovo, and Hekuran Murati, Kosovan Minister of Finance, Labour and Transfers. The signing ceremony was attended by Johannes Stenbaek Madsen, Head of Cooperation at the European Union Office in Kosovo, and representatives of the regional water company, Hidromorava.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The funds will go towards the construction of a wastewater treatment plant and the rehabilitation and extension of the existing wastewater and sewerage network in the municipality of Gjilan. The EBRD extended a \u20ac10 million loan for the project in 2019. The European Investment Bank (EIB) is extending another \u20ac10 million loan.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Once constructed, the new treatment plant will significantly reduce pollution resulting from wastewater flowing into nearby rivers and provide Gjilan residents with access to cleaner water. It will also help to improve environmental conditions and public health, while mitigating the effects of climate change in the water and wastewater sector in Kosovo.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/wbif.eu\/storage\/app\/media\/Library\/1.%20Governance\/WBIF%20at%20a%20Glance_May2020.pdf\">Western Balkans Investment Framework (WBIF)<\/a>\u00a0supports socio-economic development and EU accession across the Western Balkans by providing finance and technical assistance for strategic investments. It is a joint initiative of the\u00a0European Union, financial institutions, bilateral donors and the governments of the Western Balkans.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The
