To potpisivanje je bio ambiciozan plan da se osigura dugoro\u010dni mir u poslijeratnoj Evropi i smatra se po\u010detkom onoga \u0161to je danas Evropska unija. U svom govoru, u Parizu 1950. Godine, tada\u0161nji francuski ministar vanjskih poslova Robert Schuman, iznio je svoju ideju o novom obliku politi\u010dke saradnje u Evropi zahvaljuju\u0107i kojem bi rat bio nezamisliv me\u0111u evropskim nacijama.
